‘Won’t surrender to Delhi’: TVK says Vijay rejects offer of 2.5-year CM term and 50% seats; party to contest all 234 constituencies

Vijay will contest from one of the North Chennai constituencies: TVK’s Aadhav Arjuna

New Delhi: Tamilaga Vitri Kazhagam (TVK) general secretary Adhav Arjuna has claimed that the party’s founder and chairman and superstar VijayAhead of the upcoming elections, one political party has offered the post of chief minister of Tamil Nadu along with “50 per cent of the assembly seats”.He said Vijay rejected the offer and claimed that the actor-politician “will not surrender to Delhi”.“Vijay is not a person who will surrender to Delhi for the chief minister’s post. They have given us various offers – from 50 seats to 90 seats. All Vijay said is that he wants the trust of the people of Tamil Nadu, not the chief minister’s post,” Arjuna told party officials at a meeting in Korattur on Tuesday, PTI reported.“We will be a strong force… We will contest from all 234 constituencies and will form a secular social justice government. This is the message I want to send to our Christian and Muslim friends,” he added. While Arjuna did not reveal the name of the party that made the offer, his reference to “Delhi” hinted at a national player, e.g. bjpleads the central government, or Congress, the main opposition. However, the Congress has announced a seat-sharing arrangement with its existing ally Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s DMK.Meanwhile, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami said his party is not in alliance talks with TVK. Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party chief Nainal Nagantran also echoed this stance, although there was speculation that people close to the BJP may seek a poll deal against the DMK.Vijay has repeatedly called the DMK his “political enemy” and the BJP his “ideological enemy”.TVK, established in February 2024, plans to make its debut in the parliamentary elections on April 23, with vote counting scheduled for May 4.
