Typically, when a payment is made as an early deposit because the first of the month is a Sunday, the payment will start coming into the account on Monday. As a result, many Americans had been expecting their checks to arrive on Monday, but by late afternoon, many reported that their checks were still waiting.

This led many recipients to wonder if there was a delay in their deposits. Posts and discussions have mushroomed on social media, with concerned beneficiaries asking why their checks were allegedly delayed. Here’s what you need to know about the matter.

The delay was reportedly due in part to Social Security Administration (SSA) website faced an outage Monday morning. Thousands of users have reported problems accessing their accounts on the website Down Detector, a platform that tracks such outages based on user reports.

Regardless, the March 2026 SSI payment schedule states that payments can arrive anytime between February 23 and February 26, depending on the bank and financial instrument used to receive benefits.

Some reports say the Automated Clearing House (ACH) system that makes SSI payments is facing problems because it also processes the tax returns of millions of Americans. However, SSI has not officially confirmed the news and the specific details are still unclear.
