A media release issued by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday said Arshdeep was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “throwing the ball (or any other cricket equipment) at or near a player during an international match in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner”.The incident occurred during the 11th innings of the New Zealand national cricket team’s match on Sunday when Arshdeep took a catch and aggressively threw the ball back, hitting the Black Caps vice-captain’s pads.India defeated the New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs and became the first team to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup three times. The Indian national cricket team also became the first team to successfully defend and win the tournament on home soil.Ashdeep accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the ICC’s Elite Match Referees Panel, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.The charge was made by on-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Alex Wolff, third umpire Alahuddin Palek and fourth umpire Adrian Holstock.The minimum penalty for a Level 1 offense is an official reprimand and the maximum fine is 50% of the player’s match fee and one to two points.

Contents of the Rules (ICC Code of Conduct)

  • Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct relates to throwing a ball or any cricket equipment in an inappropriate or dangerous manner at or near a player during an international match
  • This rule applies to players and player support staff participating in international cricket matches.
  • The minimum penalty for a Level 1 violation is an official reprimand.
  • The maximum penalty for a Level 1 offense is 50% of the player’s match fee.
  • Violations may also result in one or two points being deducted from a player’s disciplinary record.
  • Deductions will remain on the player’s record for 24 months from the date of the deduction.
  • If a player accumulates four or more demerit points within a 24-month period, these demerits will be converted into suspension points, which may result in a ban.
