He described his son as an athlete, an honor student and a worker who worked two jobs. Jackson recently committed to attend the University of Houston in the fall, his father said.
The family recently helped Jackson secure a lease for an apartment near his future campus.
“Life changes,” James said.
Jackson underwent three surgeries in three days and is now out of the intensive care unit. However, he is still receiving treatment in the hospital. His family said his recovery will be long.
“Our biggest concern is that he survives. We’ll figure out what changes need to be made,” James said.
