Sarinasadat Hosseiny, 25, a relative of slain Iranian general Qasem Soleimani, came under scrutiny after she was arrested by U.S. immigration authorities in Los Angeles.Husseini is the grand-niece of Soleimani, the former commander of Iran’s Quds Force, who was killed in a U.S. drone strike in 2020.Husseini entered the United States on a student visa in 2015 and subsequently obtained legal permanent residency (green card) in 2023. Her mother, Hamideh Soleimani Afshar, is Soleimani’s niece and was previously granted asylum and later a green card. Both women were arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after the U.S. State Department revoked their residency status. Officials said the action was taken because of alleged ties to the Iranian regime.U.S. authorities have specifically targeted Afshar’s activities, accusing her of promoting Iranian government propaganda, supporting Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and expressing anti-American views on social media while living in the United States. Hosseini was detained with her mother after her legal status was revoked. Both women are currently in ICE custody and face deportation from the United States.Husseini has been living in the United States for several years and shares aspects of her lavish lifestyle on social media, including travels across the country, expensive cars and luxurious clothes. The arrests are part of a broader campaign by U.S. authorities to target individuals believed to have ties to or support foreign regimes hostile to the United States, particularly amid heightened tensions over the war with Iran.U.S. authorities have no indication that Husseini himself has been charged with a criminal offense. The action against her was related to immigration status and national security issues after her green card was revoked.
