An Indian-origin financial expert has been appointed as the new chief strategy and investment officer of the Metropolitan Police.Hardev Virdee previously served as Group Chief Financial Officer of Barts Health NHS Trust and held senior finance roles across the NHS for more than a decade, including roles at Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust and Wandsworth CCG.The appointment was announced on Tuesday, with the Metropolitan Police saying Wildey would help lead the force’s long-term strategy, investment and commercial planning at a time of financial pressure and organizational change.“I am delighted to be joining the Met at such an important time,” Virdee was quoted as saying by PTI.“After many years working in the NHS, I am delighted to be able to continue my commitment to public service. This is a challenging role and I look forward to working closely with colleagues and partners to deliver the Met’s vision and increase investment and resources to support the Met’s frontline policing. “Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mark Rowley welcomed the appointment and praised Virdee’s leadership and financial expertise.Rowley said: “I look forward to Hardeff coming to the Met and supporting officials and staff with his expertise, energy and insight.”“He was very impressive during the selection process.”Rowley added that Vidi’s experience in strategic leadership and organizational transformation will help the police force continue to reform while working to close a significant financial gap.Virdee is also vice-president of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy and is expected to become president of the organization later this year.
