El Mencho, the founder of the notorious Jalisco New Generation drug cartel (CJNG), died from injuries sustained in a late February confrontation between his bodyguards and Mexican special forces sent to arrest him.
He is the country’s most wanted man and the US has offered a $15m (£11.2m) reward for information leading to his capture.
His death sparked widespread retaliatory violence, with cartel members setting vehicles on fire and blocking roads in 20 Mexican states.
According to Marca, 39-year-old Oseguera Gonzalez (alias “La Negra”) purchased a newly constructed five-bedroom home for $590,000 in cash in September 2023, less than two years after she was released from federal prison for laundering drug profits.
Her presence unnerved community members who were not used to such things happening in their normally peaceful neighborhood.

Since she bought the property, the home has undergone significant renovations, leaving neighbors both impressed and confused.
Contractors are said to have replaced standard cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms with marble countertops and high-end appliances, Marca reported.
The landscaping was also significantly improved with mature trees being lifted onto the roof by crane and placed in the backyard.
In addition to the luxury, the property now boasts a backyard pool, spa, and even a putting green. Residents estimate the total cost of the improvements to be in the tens of thousands of dollars, prompting questions about where the funding came from.
Despite these extravagant improvements, the mansion often appeared almost vacant. Neighbors noticed unusual vehicles coming and going, some with Mexican license plates, sometimes parked for long periods of time.
An elderly resident described what he observed mini cooper The Redneck with Baja California license plates was parked in the driveway alongside other luxury cars that appeared and disappeared without any visible driver, Marca reported. These observations, along with the odd U-Haul truck loading and unloading items, sparked curiosity and speculation about the property’s actual use.
Neighbors’ interactions with Oseguera Gonzalez were infrequent but polite. She once introduced herself as a single mother of two adult daughters and mentioned that she purchased the house with cash.
However, Marca reported that neighbors expressed an ongoing sense of discomfort, adding that an elderly couple who lived next door, who moved in shortly after she bought the house, claimed it felt “not quite right” and that persistent but mysterious activity fueled their suspicions. However, there is no public evidence linking the mansion to any ongoing criminal activity.
