Who is Erfan Farage?

Majid Moghadasi, an Iranian-American living in woodland Hills told The Washington Post that his nephew, Erfan Faraji, was killed on January 8 during anti-government demonstrations that rocked the Islamic Republic.

He died just two days after turning 18. Farage’s death coincided with a crackdown by the regime that killed as many as 36,500 people in January.

The Washington Post reported that the estimated death toll during the regime’s crackdown on unrest in January ranged from 7,000 to 36,000.

Two days after learning of his nephew’s death, Mogadasi said he contacted the White House directly to make an urgent request for assistance.

Mogadasi made a heartfelt appeal, recounting the tragic incident in which his nephew was shot dead on the streets of Shahrei, south of Tehran.

“He was an innocent boy with a dream and a future. His only act was to stand up against injustice,” Mogadasi said. He further slammed the Iranian authorities, saying they had responded to the protests “not with dialogue but with live ammunition.”

Trump’s reaction

Trump responded days later, on January 13, saying he and the first lady were “shocked” by the tragedy.

“Erfan will always be in my heart and I promise to never forget or forgive the horrific events that took him from us,” the letter read.

“Please know that my administration will always stand with the Iranian people in their quest for freedom and democracy.”

The president also pledged continued efforts to hold Iran’s leadership accountable, noting that his administration is “working to ensure that the Ayatollah and his brutal regime are brought to justice.”

Mogadasi expressed his gratitude to the President for his compassionate words and conveyed his trust in his decision-making. He felt extremely happy after reading this letter.
