Cristian Fajardo Mondragon, 17, was arrested Sunday after he was reportedly involved in a citywide shooting that injured four people, affected two fire stations and prompted a shelter-in-place order for the South Side. austinaccording to a statement from the Austin Police Department.

According to police, Mondragon was arrested along with two other suspects, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old. Their identities have not been disclosed in compliance with statewide rules governing the public release of information about juvenile offenders.

Authorities said the suspect could face multiple charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, deadly conduct, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest and theft of a firearm. Further charges may be laid as detectives insist on examining evidence.

Law enforcement reported the incidents included random shootings and targeted shootings. Police said some of the victims were familiar with the suspects, while others appeared to have no connection.

At the estate, residents described the heavy presence of law enforcement on Sunday as police searched for suspects.

Saturday, May 16

11:30 am — 321 W. Ben White Blvd.: Police responded to a report of a stolen firearm at the Central Texas Gun Factory in South Austin. Detectives’ subsequent investigation revealed the suspect vehicle, identified as a dark-colored Hyundai Sonata, had also been reported stolen from an apartment complex on East Olthoff Avenue.

3:58 pm — 10 Yucca Drive: The first shooting was reported at a trailer home. Multiple shell casings and evidence of bullet damage were found. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

4:30 pm — 3300 Parker Lane: Gunfire affected vehicles and an occupied apartment at the Whisper Hollow apartment complex, affecting rooms housing adults and children. No injuries were reported.

6:08 pm — 1601 Montopolis Drive: Allegations say the suspect opened fire through the door of a third-floor apartment and fled in a black sedan. No injuries were reported.

6:19 pm — 4802 Cypress Bend: Gunfire struck an unoccupied home and vehicle.

3:50 am — 2336 Douglas Street: A report of another stolen vehicle was received.

8:46 am — 7409 Janes Ranch Road: A victim was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds to the back and abdomen.

10:46 AM — Austin Fire Station 32: Gunfire struck another fire station while firefighters were inside.

1:44 pm — 2223 Burton Drive: Two people were shot in a drive-by shooting involving a stolen white Kia Optima.

2:29 pm — 11700 Dionda Lane: A victim suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to a trauma center.

3:23 pm — In the area of ​​FM 973, officers with the Manor Police Department were able to locate a stolen white Kia Optima after issuing a BOLO to nearby agencies.

Manor police, along with Travis County deputies, pursued the vehicle until the suspect drove into a field near FM 973 and then fled on foot. One suspect was arrested near the vehicle and the other two suspects were later found following a thorough search involving K9 units, air support and numerous law enforcement agencies.

The shooting damaged five vehicles, four homes, two fire stations and three fire trucks, according to police reports. Additionally, at least five vehicles and one firearm were reported stolen. Four people suffered gunshot wounds, with one victim currently hospitalized in critical condition.
