Deputies with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office took Anthony Grove into custody, the New York Post reported daytona beach during a law enforcement sweep aimed at controlling disorderly spring break crowds.

According to reports, Grove was sitting next to another person and drinking water from an open container when officers approached. Authorities said he appeared calm and “heavily intoxicated” before the situation escalated. He was wanted in Ohio on suspicion of violating parole conditions, and officials had previously warned he should be considered “dangerous and possibly armed.”

Body camera footage from the arrest shows Chief Deputy Brian Henderson questioning Grove about the case that led to his arrest warrant. “Are you talking like your kid, this was a car accident?” Henderson asked, before instructing him to get into the patrol car. As he was escorted away, Grove could be heard saying: “It’s over, man.”

Officials said Grove initially “acted very calm” but later admitted he was wanted in connection with an incident involving his children. He also denied parole and told police he had been looking for work in the area for several days, according to the arrest affidavit.

Who is Anthony Grove?

Anthony Grove, 45, a convicted criminal, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child, according to Ohio authorities.

The charges stem from a 2015 incident in which he threw a coffee cup during an argument, hitting his infant son in the head. The child later died from his injuries.
