Looking for a hiker has disappeared Spent nearly a week in the nearby wilderness lake tahoe. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office has requested help in locating 60-year-old Jason Coughran, who has been missing since May 25 at approximately 4:00 p.m.
“The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office needs your help. Our crews are actively conducting search and rescue efforts in the wilderness with search and rescue crews. We are currently searching for a late subject, Jason Coughlan,” a Facebook post read.
“Jason is described as a white male adult, 60 years old, 6’02” tall, and weighs 150 pounds. He has brown hair, hazel eyes, and a stocky build. He was hiking into the wilderness from Fallen Leaf Lake. He is believed to be wearing khaki shorts, but the exact attire is unknown. He was last heard from on May 25, 2026 at approximately 4:00 p.m.”
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone who is hiking in the area and encounters Jason to contact the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office at 530-621-6600 or 530-573-3051. It also warned that weather at high altitudes can be unpredictable and urged people to plan accordingly when venturing into the wilderness.
Someone who appears to know Jason provided more insight in the comments of the post. The Facebook user wrote: “Jason is an avid hiker All over California, especially the mountains. He usually hikes alone. He moved fast and could never be overtaken on the trails after dark. He was friendly and spoke with a British accent. He had hiked all over Yosemite and was used to the high altitude. I can’t imagine what happened other than falling downhill. “

one Reddit user claims “100 highly trained professionals are searching for Jason,” the post added. “As much as it pains me to say this, I also desperately want to get out and look for him – we help keep Jason off the trail and let the professionals collect the data they need to collect to determine where he might have gone. They have trackers looking for footprints, sniffer dogs – the less traffic there is in these areas, the better the chance we have of finding clues to where he might have gone.”
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, weather in the area changed from calm to windy and cold after Jason was last seen on Monday.
