As severe weather swept through Indiana’s wheat fields, a large tornado was spotted tearing through the area. The sighting prompted an alarm to be raised in Crown Point, about 25 miles away.
A large tornado was reported to have ripped through Lake Village on Tuesday, causing severe tornado damage in the area. Several homes were destroyed by the powerful storm, according to storm trackers. Lake Village is about 25 miles from Wheatfield.
A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect for portions of Pulaski, Stark and Porter counties in Indiana until 9:30 p.m. ET.
According to the latest alert from the National Weather Service, “a severe thunderstorm occurred near La Crosse, 8 miles northeast of Wheatfield, moving northeast at 25 mph.”
Radar showed a severe storm capable of producing hail the size of tennis balls and wind gusts of up to 60 mph. This situation poses a serious risk to people and animals outdoors, who may be injured by large hail. The storm could also cause severe damage to roofs, siding, windows and vehicles, while strong winds could knock down trees and damage roofs and siding, according to the National Weather Service.
Affected locations include: Knox, Winamac, North Judson, Kingsford Heights, Wanatha, Hamlet, La Crosse, Ripley, Hanna, Lomax, Beardstown, English Lake, Salem Heights, Denham, Brems, Clarks, Winona, St. Pierre, Thomaston and South Center.
