According to BNO News, the aircraft was a Cessna 172, a single-engine, four-seat aircraft commonly used for flight training and private travel. It has registration number N1560E and is registered to American Airman Inc, a flight school on Long Island.

The plane that crashed took off from MacArthur Airport on Long Island. Every Flight Radar 24the plane’s last recorded position was on the Hudson River between Newburgh and Beacon, about 60 miles north of New York City.
The area is located near New York Stewart International Airport, a commercial and military airport orange county.
The Orange County New York Fire Call Center’s Facebook page shared some details about the incident report. “Middle Hope Car 1 responded, 911 advised the aircraft may be south of the bridge, and Newburgh also dispatched an aircraft,” an update reads.

Other updates said, “Newburg unit responded, boat not in service,” and “Middle Hope Car 1 requested boat from New Hamburg.”
According to Stuart Tarr, there were two people on board and the plane was “full of fuel,” the page said. Newburgh Car 4 later confirmed that “all subjects” were “out of the water and on shore.”
The page stated that relevant units were at the scene looking for the plane. “Command advises that nothing is visible from the aircraft and requests a drone or helicopter with a thermal camera to assist in the search. 911 advises Lifenet Air 2 overhead to assist in the search,” the update reads.
“The Newburgh Police Department confirmed sighting of the aircraft on Renwick Street,” an update reads. Another user said, “911 advised Hackensack Airlines to be on standby. The US Coast Guard advised they could send a ship from New York with an ETA of 6-7 hours, or a plane from Cape Cod with an ETA of 1 hour, and the Newburgh command asked the Coast Guard to remain involved.”
