What was the “Mother of Satan”, the dangerous homemade explosive used in the Gracie Tower bombing?

Experts say TATP, known as the “Mother of Satan,” is favored by terrorists because of its low cost, high lethality and the fact that it can be easily made using materials found in ordinary hardware stores.

After their arrest, they both admitted they acted out of anger and claimed the right-wing demonstrators had “insulted their religion,” sources said.

The fight occurred outside the mayor’s mansion on Saturday afternoon during an anti-Muslim protest organized by right-wing provocateur Jack Long, The Washington Post reported. The demonstrations quickly descended into chaos as counterprotesters flooded the streets. Amid the chaos of flying fists and chants, police reported that an explosive-filled sports drink bottle wrapped in duct tape was thrown from the air toward Long’s team — the bottle contained tripeacetone triperoxide, or TATP, the same substance used in deadly terrorist attacks across Europe.

“In fact, this was an improvised explosive device that could have caused serious injury or death,” she said. “I want to once again thank the brave members of the NYPD who ran toward danger without hesitation and quickly arrested the suspect.”

As chaos broke out, several clashes were captured on video, leading to the arrest of six people, including those suspected of the bombing and right-wing demonstrator Ian McInnes, who is accused of using pepper spray on opposing groups. Meanwhile, Mayor Zoran Mamdani denounced Long’s activities as “white supremacy,” claiming there was “no room for hate” in New York.
