The shooting on East 28th Street sparked a backlash around the Whole Foods Market at 63 Madison Avenue new york city on Monday. Currently, the New York Police Department is hunting for the fugitive suspect.
This afternoon, police were stationed near 63 Madison Avenue and vehicles were parked around Madison Square Park. One person was shot shortly before 12:30 a.m. Monday. Video from the scene showed police cordoning off the area of East 28th Street where the shooting occurred.
The suspect reportedly fled south on Madison on Route 63, leading to a large police presence in the area. The suspect was described as a man wearing a black backpack.

It has not been revealed that the victim of the shooting was a Breaking Ground employee. The man works as a security guard at the Prince George nonprofit, run by Breaking Ground, in a former hotel that has been converted into affordable housing for low-income and homeless people.

“Breaking Ground is deeply saddened by an incident involving one of our security guards that occurred near the Prince George Hotel earlier today,” the organization wrote in a statement to CBS.
“Our hearts go out to them and their loved ones, and the safety of our tenants, employees and community is our top priority. We are working closely with the NYPD and cannot comment further while the investigation is ongoing.”
As of now, no one has been arrested in the shooting, and the NYPD is reportedly conducting a manhunt in the Madison Avenue area looking for a suspect. A motive for the shooting has also not been disclosed.

New York reports cited witnesses who said the suspect and victim were seen talking to each other before the shooting. NYPD deputies found two shell casings at the scene, the report states.
Additionally, shortly after the shooting, a woman was seen running toward the Whole Foods at 63 Madison Avenue.
