New Delhi: Earlier on Monday, the Indian Embassy in Riyadh denied reports that an Indian was killed in an incident in which Iranian “military pellets” hit a residential building in Al Khajji, Saudi Arabia, amid a crisis in the Middle East region. However, an Indian national was reportedly injured.The embassy said in a post on X that the injured were being treated at a government hospital in Al Kharj and that officials were in contact with Saudi authorities. The embassy wrote: “It is gratifying that no Indian died in the unfortunate incident that occurred in Al Khaj last night. The Embassy has been in touch with the relevant Saudi authorities on the matter. Counselor (CW) Shri Y. Sabir visited Al Khaj last night and met with the injured Indian nationals involved in the unfortunate incident.” He is currently undergoing treatment at a government hospital in Alkhaj. “
The embassy’s statement came after the Saudi General Civil Defense confirmed that the projectiles landed in a residential area in Al Khajji governorate. Civil protection authorities said two people died and many others were injured. The death toll was Bangladeshi nationals, while 11 Bangladeshis and one Indian were injured, according to the agency.The incident comes amid rising tensions between the United States, Israel and Iran.
