Malda: The NIA has detained Congress party’s Mothabari candidate Sayem Choudhury, gram panchayat member Golam Rabbani and two others for questioning in connection with the April 1 Mothabari violence where seven judicial officials were held for eight hours at the Kaliachak-II block office in Malda, Bengal, Subhro Maitra reported. Sources said Chaudhry and Rabbani were among the crowd that gathered outside the office that morning. ISF panchayat member Rabbani reportedly addressed villagers, mostly women, whose names have been removed from the electoral rolls. The NIA took over the investigation after the Supreme Court order and has now detained 50 people who were earlier arrested by the police.
