Saudi Aramco’s Ras Tanura oil refinery in Saudi Arabia was hit on Monday by intercepting debris dropped by an Iranian drone, as the conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran continues even after the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.A Saudi military spokesman announced the news via the state-run Saudi Press Agency. The Jerusalem Post quoted a Semafor reporter as saying that the fire was small, isolated and under control. Video online from the site showed thick black smoke billowing from the attack. The closure of the facility following the attack heightened supply concerns as shipping through the Strait of Hormuz came to a near standstill after attacks on ships in the area on Sunday. The Strait of Hormuz carries about a fifth of the world’s oil.News TV stations also reported on an Iranian missile attack on Port Salman in Bahrain. Iranian media claimed that the port was used to transport U.S. logistical equipment used to fight Iran. The drone attack came as Iran launched wider attacks across the region, hitting Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Doha, Manama and the Omani commercial port of Duqm. Most oil production in Iraq’s Kurdistan region has been shut down over the weekend as a precaution
.
The conflict escalated after the United States and Israel carried out targeted operations that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran has retaliated by launching missile and drone attacks across the Middle East, targeting U.S. bases and allied facilities.
