Viral video circulating online appears to show a U.S. jet crashing in Basra, Iraq, amid an ongoing conflict with Iran. However, CENTCOM, or U.S. Central Command, has put these rumors to rest by sharing the latest news on X.
“Rumors are circulating on social media that a US fighter jet was shot down over Basra. These are baseless and not true,” they wrote.
Ahead of the clarification, some videos began circulating on social media, albeit from unverified profiles. “Unconfirmed footage of pilot ejected in Basra,” one page noted. The alleged video appears to show a man wearing a parachute.
As of this writing, the video has been viewed over 32,000 times. One person also claimed, “It was reported that the American pilot who crashed in Basra yesterday and landed by parachute was drinking tea in a tribal hotel. However, the news has not been confirmed.”
However, photo The content they shared was noted to be likely generated by artificial intelligence through a variety of uses.
