A U.S. federal judge on Monday struck down a $100,000 fee imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump on new H-1B visas for high-skilled foreign workers, calling it illegal.Boston District Judge Leo Sorokin issued the ruling in a lawsuit filed by 20 Democratic state attorneys general challenging fees announced by Trump in September that significantly increased the cost of H-1B visas, Reuters reported.Last September, Trump signed a proclamation charging an annual fee of $100,000 for fresh blood. H-1B visa application, and other changes to the Skilled Foreign Worker Program.The move marks a significant tightening of the H-1B system, which was originally designed to attract highly skilled foreign professionals for specialized technical positions. Over time, the program was reportedly used increasingly by companies to hire workers at relatively low wages, particularly in the tech industry.
