UN, multilateralism and international law under attack: UN General Assembly president

New Delhi: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sujashankar Hold talks with visitors United Nations On Tuesday, United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) President Annalena Berbock discussed a range of issues, including the impact of artificial intelligence and conflicts in West Asia.Jaishankar said in a post on Belbok later told a news conference that the world was witnessing rising geopolitical tensions, growing divisions and pressure on the three pillars of the United Nations: peace and security, development and human rights. “Today, the United Nations, multilateralism and international law are not only under pressure but also under direct attack,” she said.“No country, regardless of its size or power, can address today’s complex global challenges alone, such as climate change, global pandemics and the economic impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine or closure of the Strait of Hormuz,” she said.Bellbock rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed peace commission plan, which envisioned a permanent membership fee. “Because every country, big or small, powerful or wealthy, has a seat at the table; because if you have to pay to join, you’re not going to find a just peace for anyone in the world,” she said. Trump’s Gaza Peace Commission is considered a potential rival to the United Nations. When talking about the need for United Nations reform, she said that although the United Nations is indispensable, it must reform itself to be more efficient, more agile, and better able to carry out work on the ground.
