UAE News: Final exams canceled for UAE IB students, alternative grading system announced | World News

International Baccalaureate (IB) students across the UAE will not sit for their final exams in 2026 due to the ongoing regional conflict and the US-Israel-Iran conflict. IB school parents were informed of the dramatic changes to the current exam cycle via an email sent out on Monday evening. It also marks a change in the student assessment process. According to a notification from one of the IB schools, students will receive their grades using non-exam contingency measures (NECM). During this process, students will be provided with final grades based on internal assessment, coursework and other academic evidence. The system aims to maintain academic standards while reducing student stress and uncertainty during an already challenging time The International Baccalaureate Organization said it will communicate directly with universities around the world to ensure that the NECM approach in the Middle East is clearly visible. This decision was made to prioritize student safety and ensure continuity of the course cycle amid ongoing regional tensions. Additionally, the country’s Ministry of Education announced that all public and private schools will continue remote learning until Friday, April 17. This applies to all students, teachers and administrative staff in educational institutions such as nurseries and kindergartens across the country. Earlier, CBSE canceled the Class XII final exams to provide respite to anxious students and parents who are facing difficulties and chaos due to the current situation in the country. The board announced that students will be profiled under a hybrid assessment system. This combines the scores for the completed papers with the calculated average for the unsent papers. The UAE authorities, from border patrols to education, have been taking all necessary measures to ensure smooth functioning and normal life in the country, while ensuring the safety of citizens and working towards their development and growth.
