Two Akanksha Singh, one UPSC Ranking: Ghazipur candidate confirmed at 301

New Delhi: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Monday clarified that Akanksha Singh from Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur is the candidate who secured 301st rank in the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2025, after two candidates with the same name claimed to have the same rank, creating confusion. Media reports and social media posts showed that two women, Akanksha Singh, both claimed to have secured the 301st position, providing clarification after the final results were announced on Friday.“There are various media reports that two candidates with the same name, Akanksha Singh, have claimed to have secured the same 301st rank in the final result of Civil Services Examination 2025,” UPSC said in a statement issued by PIB.The committee said that according to its records, Akanksha Singh (name: 0856794, father’s name: Ranjit Singh, mother’s name: Neelam Singh), a resident of Abuhaipur village in Gazipur district, Uttar Pradesh, was successfully elected and ranked 301st.The controversy intensified after another Akanksha Singh from Ara in Bihar, the granddaughter of Brahmeshwar Singh, founder of the banned militia Ranvir Sena, was also widely reported to have been given the same rank. Brahmeshwar Singh was murdered in 2012.The confusion deepened after an admission ticket circulated on social media appeared to show the same name and roll number. Akanksha from Ara earlier told reporters that she secured 301st rank in the second exam. Meanwhile, the Ghazipur candidate alleged impersonation in a Facebook post.“It was discovered that my rank and identity had been impersonated by others,” she wrote, attaching what she said were documents of her original identity document and electronic summons, PTI reported.“I am a gynecologist by profession and currently practicing at AIIMS, Patna. I came to know that another girl claimed to be ranked 301st,” she said in a video message.“This video is just for clarification. If you scan the QR code on both admission tickets, the matter will be clear,” she added.
