Tucker Carlson says CIA obtained information on him to try to frame him as foreign agent

Tucker Carlson claims the CIA read his text messages that led to war with Iran in an attempt to frame him as a foreign agent.Carlson, 56, said in a video released Saturday night that the Justice Department was preparing to charge him with being an unregistered foreign agent for the Iranian regime, based on recommendations from the CIA.“The CIA is preparing some kind of criminal transfer of me to file a criminal report with the Department of Justice based on the alleged crimes that I committed,” the former Fox News host said in a video released on Saturday, according to the New York Post.“What kind of crime is that? Well, talking to the Iranian people before the war,” Carlson added. “them [the CIA] Read my text messages. “Carlson claimed he would be charged under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (1938), which requires anyone who receives funding from a foreign government for lobbying or political propaganda to register with the Justice Department. The conservative firebrand, who has been an outspoken critic of President Trump’s epic campaign of outrage, denies that he is an asset to Iran.“I am not an agent of a foreign power. Unlike many who comment on American politics and global affairs, I have only one allegiance, that is the United States, and have never acted against it,” he said, adding that he had “never taken money from other countries.”“There is no need and no desire,” Carlson said, insisting that communicating with foreign sources was part of his job as a journalist and commentator.“My job is to talk to everyone all the time and try to understand what’s going on around the world,” he said. “I’m American. I can talk to anyone.”The controversial expert said the investigation against him was politically motivated.“Some people are angry with me because of my views on Israel,” Carlson said in the video, claiming intelligence agencies tend to spy more on U.S. citizens during times of conflict.“States tend to become more authoritarian during times of war,” he said. “The tolerance for dissent is much lower.”According to “POLITICO”, Carlson was previously a strong supporter of President Trump. At a White House luncheon attended by Carlson and oil executives on January 9, Trump described Trump as “a very conservative person and a very good person.”Carlson met with President Trump several times at the White House in the weeks before the United States and Israel began joint action against Iran on February 2. 28.The last is believed to have been on February 23, shortly after his controversial interview with Mike Huckabee, the US ambassador to Israel. The timing of the meeting fueled speculation that Carlson was reprimanded by President Trump at the White House. In July 2025, Carlson was reprimanded for his interview with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, giving representatives of the Islamic Republic a global platform without any resistance.“This is a major victory for Iran’s information warfare operations. Whether intentionally or not, Carlson is acting as an important conduit and amplifier for the Iranian government’s information operations,” foreign disinformation expert Marcus Kolga told the UK-based anti-government outlet Iran International at the time.Carlson, who has been accused of peddling anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, called the attack that killed Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei “absolutely disgusting and evil” and said the war was being waged on behalf of Israel. His outburst drew a public rebuke from the White House.“Tucker has lost his way. I learned a long time ago that he is not MAGA,” President Trump said in a March 5 interview with ABC News.“MAGA is saving our country. MAGA is making our country great again. MAGA is America first, and Tucker is none of those things. Tucker really isn’t smart enough to understand that,” he said.Fox News host Mark Levin accused Carlson of exaggerating to benefit America’s enemies in the Middle East, while some critics even claimed Carlson received financial support from Qatar, a claim Carlson vehemently denies.
