Former Washington Football Team standout offensive back Trey Johnson has died at the age of 54. His death was announced by his wife, Erin Johnson, who said he died “suddenly and unexpectedly” during a family trip on Sunday.
“It is with a heavy heart that I inform everyone that my husband, Tre’ Johnson, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday, February 15, 2026, while on a short family trip. His four children, Chloe, EJ, EZ and Eden, extended family, friends and I are devastated and devastated,” she wrote in a post on Facebook.
Johnson’s exact cause of death has not been disclosed, but his wife said he had been dealing with recent health issues.
“Many of you know Tre’ best for his greatness National Football League football career. He was an offensive guard who played primarily for the Washington Redskins for eight incredible seasons (1994-2001) before heading to the Cleveland Browns in 2001. He was outstanding at Temple University. He was a second-round draft pick in 1994 and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1999. While in Washington, he was known for his endurance and strength. He loved the game and prided himself on his wealth of knowledge,” she wrote.
“After retiring, he also found his second career passion: education. He worked as a history teacher at the Langdon School in Bethesda, Maryland, where he was beloved by the young male students and faculty he mentored. His recent battle with health issues forced him to take a leave of absence.”
