New Delhi: “As details of the India-US trade deal slowly emerge, it is becoming increasingly clear that the sweeping concessions made by the BJP-led government to the US in the so-called interim deal pose a serious threat to India’s economy, agriculture and national sovereignty,” CPM said on Sunday.“ It reiterated its demand that “the details of the agreement be brought to parliament and made public”. The party said in a statement that the government must be forced to “stop signing any agreement that harms the interests of Indian workers and farmers…”.
Dipankar Bhattacharya, liberation general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), said: “The trade agreement framework represents a mild capitulation by the Modi government to Trump’s directives. It is a blatant attack on India’s sovereignty, autonomy and the rights and livelihoods of our farmers.”
