President of the United States Donald Trump On Saturday, his envoys canceled a planned trip to Pakistan, where they were due to meet Iranian leaders and hold peace talks with Tehran. He also criticized Iran’s leadership, saying “no one knows who is in charge.”After canceling his visit to Islamabad, Trump said the visit would take up too much time. He described it as “too much time wasted traveling.”Trump posted on Truth Social, “I just canceled my representative’s trip to Islamabad, Pakistan, to meet with the Iranians. Too much time, too much work wasted traveling! On top of that, there is tremendous infighting and confusion within their ‘leadership.'” No one knows who is responsible, including themselves. “He also claimed that the United States had the upper hand and once again pushed for negotiations with Iran, saying, “And, we have all the cards, they don’t! If they want to negotiate, they just have to call!!!”Top U.S. diplomats, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, canceled travel plans on orders from President Trump.Trump’s announcement came shortly after an Iranian delegation led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi left Islamabad on Saturday night after meeting with Pakistani leaders. The development dampened Pakistan’s hopes of playing a role in arranging talks between the United States and Iran.“It remains to be seen whether the United States is truly serious about diplomacy,” Araghchi said.According to Al Jazeera, the Iranian delegation left after presenting a “formal list of demands” to the Pakistani leader, asking the United States and Israel to help reach a broader Middle East solution. With the delegation currently scheduled to visit Oman and Russia, Pakistan’s chances of hosting further talks appear uncertain.
