New Delhi: The Indian government has approved setting up quantum teaching facilities or laboratories at 23 academic institutions in India under the National Quantum Mission and is considering another 100 institutions or laboratories to support advanced research and training in emerging quantum technologies.This was disclosed at a monthly joint meeting of secretaries of science ministries led by Science, Technology, Space and Atomic Energy Minister Jitendra Singh. The meeting reviewed major scientific programmes, upcoming national events and efforts to enhance coordination among different science ministries. Chief Scientific Advisor Ajay Kumar Sood was also present at the meeting.The meeting also reviewed the latest developments in the space sector, including preparations for the next PSLV mission expected later this year and upcoming satellite launches. As part of India’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its space-based navigation and strategic capabilities, the two sides discussed plans to launch the next navigation satellite for the navy around May.The meeting further discussed plans for National Technology Day celebrations on May 11. A major technology exhibition is planned to be held in New Delhi from May 11 to 13, where national research organizations and start-ups supported by the science ministry will showcase their innovations. The event is expected to bring together more than 3,000 stakeholders to showcase more than 500 technologies and innovations across thematic areas, providing a platform for industry engagement and technology commercialization.The meeting also discussed the revision of manpower guidelines for project personnel working on scientific research projects. The Ministry of Science and Technology is reviewing updates to the existing guidelines issued in 2020 so that they are aligned with the norms notified under the framework of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), ensuring greater consistency across departments.
