Do you think the TMC’s boycott of the event was an appropriate response?
Modi said: “Drupadi Murmu went to Bengal to participate in the large-scale Santal celebrations. But instead of paying tribute to the president, the TMC boycotted this sacred and important event. She herself comes from a tribal community and has always been concerned about the development of tribal communities. The TMC government allowed this event to be mismanaged.”“This is not only an insult to the President but also to the Constitution of India. It is an insult to the spirit of the Constitution. It is also an insult to the great tradition of democracy,” he added. The prime minister also accused West Bengal’s ruling party of engaging in “dirty politics” and warned the people of the state that they would respond to the alleged insult.“There is a saying in our country that no matter how powerful a person is, he will eventually be destroyed by himself. Today, I appeal to all of you in the national capital that the dirty politics and arrogance of power of the TMC, which has insulted the dignity of the tribal chiefs, will be crushed soon,” Modi said.“The enlightened people of West Bengal will never forgive the TMC for insulting a woman, a tribe, the president of the country. The country will never forgive them. The country’s tribal communities will never forgive them. The women of this country will never forgive them,” he added.Meanwhile, as the political storm intensifies, the Center has asked the West Bengal government to submit a response by 5 pm on Sunday over the alleged violation of protocols related to venue and route arrangements, sources told news agency PTI.In a letter to the West Bengal Chief Secretary, Union Home Minister Govind Mohan sought a detailed explanation for the alleged violation of the “Blue Book” guidelines governing etiquette, venue and route arrangements. The “Blue Book” is a confidential document that sets out security and protocol procedures for the president, vice president, prime minister and their families. The letter also sought clarification as to why the chief minister, chief secretary and inspector general of police were not at the airport to greet the president, which is a requirement under the Blue Book agreement, top sources said.PTI sources further said that the Center has also taken note of the fact that the washroom arranged for the President was reportedly out of water and has sought an explanation from the state government. The West Bengal government has also been asked to clarify why the route chosen by the presidential convoy was allegedly littered with garbage.Additionally, the letter sought details of action taken against the Darjeeling district magistrate, Siliguri police commissioner and another district magistrate, who are believed to be directly responsible for the alleged lapses.
