TCS Nashik sexual harassment case: Main accused Nida Khan remains in police custody till May 11

New Delhi: A Nashik court on Friday remanded Nida Khan, the main accused in the sexual harassment and religious coercion case at Tata Consultancy Services’ unit in the city, to police custody till May 11, news agency PTI reported.Khan, also an IT major, was arrested from Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar on Thursday and was allegedly absconding since the case surfaced. She was produced at the Nashik Road court on Friday where the police sought her detention for further investigation. The court accepted her plea and remanded her to police custody until May 11.Earlier, on May 2, the court rejected Khan’s anticipatory bail application, holding that there appeared to be a “systematic plan” to brainwash the complainant through an “organized attempt”. The court also said that “the seriousness of the crime is indeed multi-dimensional and multi-layered” and said a custodial interrogation was necessary to get to the “roots of the case.”The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Nashik police is currently investigating nine cases related to alleged molestation and harassment in the TCS unit of Nashik. So far, eight people, including a woman operations manager, have been arrested and nine FIRs have been registered for alleged exploitation, attempt to coerce religious beliefs, hurt religious sentiments, harassment and mental harassment of women employees in the office.Tata Consultancy Services said it has long had a zero-tolerance policy against any form of harassment and intimidation, adding that employees allegedly involved in sexual harassment cases at its Nashik office have been suspended.
