Tanveer Singh: Indian driver jailed for 29 years for strangling sex worker in UK News World

An Indian-origin delivery driver was sentenced to 29 years in prison last year for the murder of a woman whose body was found dumped on the roadside in England’s West Midlands.Tanveer Singh, 32, was convicted of killing Shara Millar, 41, whose body was found in Smethwick in August 2025.During sentencing at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Wednesday, Judge Michael Chambers called Singh a “manipulative, cynical” man who showed no remorse for the killings, PTI reported. The court heard Singh met Miller after drinking in a pub and then drove to Soho Road where he approached sex workers. Prosecutors said he later attacked Miller in the van and strangled her to death.Detective Inspector Joe Davenport from West Midlands Police said the victim was “brutally murdered by a dangerous predator”.The news agency quoted Davenport as saying: “Earlier in the evening, Singh had been drinking in a pub before heading to Soho Road in search of sex workers. He then picked up Sarah in a van and she was fatally attacked.”Investigators told the court that Singer tried to eliminate forensic evidence by pouring liquid on Miller after the killing and then abandoned her on the sidewalk.A member of the public later discovered the body, prompting West Midlands Police to launch a murder investigation.CCTV footage viewed by detectives showed a white van arriving at the scene before Miller’s body was removed and left on the roadside. Police later traced the car to a rental company and determined that Singh had been using it to deliver packages at the time of the crime.Police traced Mr Singh to his home address in West Bromwich and arrested him on suspicion of murder.A forensic autopsy found Miller died of head injuries and strangulation.During the trial, jurors heard Miller had been suffering from drug addiction and was engaging in sex work at the time of his death.Following the sentencing, West Midlands Police said they would continue to work with support organizations to help vulnerable women involved in sex work.“No woman should feel unsafe and we are committed to providing a safe space to report and receive support,” police said in a statement.
