New Delhi: The United States cricket team has been forced to make changes to its squad for the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup after fast bowler Jasdeep Singh was ruled out due to a shoulder injury. The International ICC confirmed that Ehsan Adil has been approved by the tournament’s technical committee as his replacement.
In a statement confirming the change, the ICC wrote: “The 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Event Technical Committee has approved Ehsan Adil as a replacement for Jasdeep Singh in the United States squad.” Adil, who has previously played three Tests and six ODIs for Pakistan, is yet to play an international match for the United States but will be eligible to join the squad subject to committee approval. The International Cricket Federation also noted that “replacement players will need to be approved by the Event Technical Committee (ETC) before they can officially join the team.”Jasdeep Singh got injured during the warm-up match against New Zealand at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. When the 32-year-old tried to dive for Devon Conway’s shot, he landed awkwardly on his right shoulder and was in obvious pain. He was quickly surrounded by players and support staff before being taken off the pitch and taken to hospital for scans.Jasdeep’s story is an important part of the rise of American cricket. Born in New York, he moved to Punjab as a child before returning to the United States and taking cricket seriously. He made his debut for Team USA in 2015 and has been a regular member of the team since 2018 after battling injuries. He played a total of 45 ODIs and 30 T20Is, taking 54 and 31 wickets respectively. He was also part of Team USA’s memorable 2024 T20 World Cup where the team shocked Pakistan and Jasdeep dismissed Babar Azam in that historic match. His absence in 2026 will be a setback for Team USA, but the addition of Ehsan Adil gives them an experienced pace option as they prepare for the global tournament.
