Sitharaman: High turnout in Bengal, TN to change

Mumbai: High turnout in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu points to the possibility of anti-incumbency and political change, FM Nirmala Sitharaman said on Saturday, while describing defections on the appeal of the BJP’s governance and leadership.Linking rising voter participation to dissatisfaction with the current government, the Union finance minister said “normal psychologist analysis would say that when there is strong anti-current government… that’s when you get this kind of voter turnout”, adding “this voter turnout is going to change…”Talking about other party leaders joining the BJP, she said parties attract new entrants when they “run a responsive government” and are “absolutely fair in dealing with all sections of society”.Sitharaman also pointed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s record, saying his “integrity” and “ability to govern” continue to attract people to the party.
