Scindia: India has begun the leap from 5G to 6G

New Delhi: India’s Communications Minister has begun the leap from 5G to 6G Jyotiraditya Scindia said Thursday.“Processes on global technology standards and interoperability are being rolled out today. This work is being done by the International Telecommunications Union and 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project), both world standard-setting bodies. We don’t expect standards to be developed and rolled out until 2030. So we’re still in ideation mode. But the difference is that India has not participated in the formulation of global standards for 3G or 4G telecommunications. Our first foray into 5G came when we submitted a proposal for ubiquitous connectivity around the world. “This time, when it comes to 6G, “we are partners in the roundtable,” he said. “For the first time in the history of independent India, the country is on the table of setting standards for telecom technologies that are being rolled out. We formed the Bharat 6G Alliance in 2024, realizing the early vision of Prime Minister Modi, when 5G was not yet fully rolled out in 2023 post-Covid,” he added. He added that the Bharat 6G Alliance started with only 14 members and has now grown to 85 members.
