Pilgrims visiting the Two Holy Mosques during Ramadan should prepare for warm weather and limited rainfall. Saudi Arabia’s National Meteorological Center has released its preliminary climate outlook for Ramadan 1447H, predicting above-average temperatures and below-normal rainfall in Mecca and Medina throughout Ramadan. The forecast is part of the centre’s seasonal monitoring efforts to support preparations and business planning, particularly for authorities serving worshipers during Ramadan.

Temperatures are expected to rise further

Temperatures in both cities are expected to exceed seasonal normals, according to the National Weather Center. In Mecca, maximum temperatures are likely to be around 1°C above historical averages. In Medina, the temperature increase is likely to be 1.2°C above average.Historically, average temperatures during Ramadan have been around 26.8°C in Mecca and 23.1°C in Medina. With the forecast rise, conditions are expected to get significantly warmer during the day, especially during the afternoon rush hour.

Rainfall is likely to remain below average

Rainfall is expected to be below normal monthly averages in both cities.Typical rainfall during Ramadan is approximately 4.2 mm in Mecca and 4.3 mm in Medina. The center said any precipitation recorded during the holy month is likely to fall under the light rain category. This indicates there is limited potential for major rainfall events, with rainfall totals expected to remain moderate throughout the period.

Supporting preparations during Ramadan

The meteorological authority said the seasonal outlook is intended to support preparedness planning and operational readiness, especially for entities providing services to visitors to the Two Holy Mosques during Ramadan.By providing early climate forecasts, the center aims to help agencies predict weather conditions and adjust services accordingly. As Ramadan approaches, the National Meteorological Center encourages the public to obtain the latest weather reports and regular climate briefings through its recognized official channels.
