Sanzhou Samson He continued his exceptional form at the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and once again wowed in the final, scoring 89 runs off just 45 balls to get India off to a brilliant start. The wicketkeeper-batsman once again set the tone at the top, initiating the attack from the outset and putting firm pressure on the opposition bowlers.Samson’s latest effort also helped the Indian team create a unique record in the history of the T20 World Cup. For the first time ever, the top three batsmen of an innings of a team all crossed the 50-run mark in the same match. It underlines the dominance of the Indian batting line-up on the biggest stage of the tournament. The 31-year-old also set a new record with six hits in the tournament. Samson currently holds the record for most sixes in a T20 World Cup match with 24, surpassing Finn Allen who had 20 sixes in the previous World Cup.His 89 points in the final also became the highest personal score in a T20 World Cup final. The Indian star surpassed Marlon Samuels’ previous score of 85 in 2016 and surpassed Kane Williamson’s 85 in 2021.Samson’s consistency has been one of the highlights of this tournament. He also joins the elite list of players who have scored half-centuries in both the T20 World Cup semi-finals and finals. Only Shahid Afridi in 2009 and Virat Kohli He achieved this feat before in 2014 when Samson added his name to that list in 2026.The Indian batsman also equaled another record of scoring consecutive fifty-plus runs in the tournament. Samson has now scored 50 or more in three consecutive T20 World Cups and is tied with the most consistent performers in the tournament. The list includes Mahela Jayawardene who achieved this in 2010, Virat Kohli who achieved this between 2016 and 2021, Babar Azam who achieved this in 2021, KL Rahul who achieved this in 2021, and two other players in the current edition, Kusal Mendis and Sahibzada Farhan.Sanju Samson also etched his name in the history books by becoming the highest-scoring Indian in a single edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He surpassed Virat Kohli’s long-standing record of 319 runs during the 2014 tournament.Samson’s achievement is all the more remarkable as he was not part of India’s eleven at the start of the tournament and played only five matches throughout the season.
