According to a report in The Indian Express, Saketh’s father Srinivasaiah Thammanagowda visited Saketh’s residence when Karnataka MLC Arathi Krishna visited his residence on Sunday. “Only when she (Saketh’s mother) sees his body will we admit that he is dead. Until then, we believe he is still alive,” he said.
Although the Indian consulate assured that arrangements would be made to return Sachs’ body to India, his parents expressed a desire to travel to the United States. They wanted to see their son’s body in person.
The family declined to speak to the media and asked government officials who came to their residence to leave. Only MLC Arathi Krishna, who also serves as the vice-president of the organization national research institute The Karnataka Forum was allowed to meet them.
“The family is in disbelief,” Krishna said, according to the Indian Express. “They said their son was an extremely strong-willed man. They were not asking for the body to be taken to India, but wanted to go to the United States themselves.”
The family has now sought help from the Indian government to obtain an emergency visa as they believe Sachs may still be alive.
Saketh successfully completed his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from IIT Madras and moved to the United States on September 4, 2025. He is a graduate student in chemical and biomolecular engineering at the University of California.
According to Krishna, Saketh last contacted his family on February 8, the day before he disappeared. He said he called his mother but she was unable to answer because she was at work. “Then he called his brother and talked to him. He didn’t call again after that,” she said.
After February 9, Sakesi did not answer calls, and family members speculated that he was busy studying or working. On February 12, his roommate Baneet Singh informed his parents that Saketh was missing.
Sachs is survived by his parents and younger brother. His father ran a small business and his mother was employed by the state government.
