An eyewitness described what happened and remembered the victim fondly. One said they heard gunshots and “ran over to make sure everyone was okay, especially my friends.” The person went on to say they had seen the victim in the park before. The victim was reportedly considered a good basketball player. “The cool kids,” the witness recalled.
Meanwhile, news of the shooting was also circulating online. “An investigation into a shooting at a local park in St. Albans. The NYPD is at Roy Wilkins Park locally for reports of a dispute that turned into a shooting. Emergency centers are working to transport the man who was shot to a local hospital. The hospital is located near Besley Avenue and Merrick Avenue, which is a very safe community in Queens according to local elected officials,” said a local reporter who identified himself as police. wrote on Facebook. Police are currently looking for two suspects who fled in an unknown direction. The investigation remains ongoing.”
