Rene Redzepi: Noma chef resigns amid abuse allegations; who can replace him

In addition to “leaving” Noma, he also said he would resign from MAD, the community-building nonprofit he founded. It is unclear whether Redzepi will remain Noma’s owner.

Redzepi has expressed great confidence in the Noma team, so the famous restaurant will likely look inward for a replacement.

Pablo Soto is Noma’s head chef and may succeed Redzepi. He has been with Noma for more than eight years.

CEO and co-owner Peter Kreiner is also expected to step up, particularly on the administrative side.

Lau Richter and James Spreadbury, service director and restaurant manager respectively, recently became partners in the business and may also step up to lead Noma as Redzepi takes a step back.

Chief operating officer Lena Hennessy’s responsibilities may also increase. In addition to being Noma’s chief operating officer, she is also a non-executive director of MAD and served as CEO of Noma Projects.

Protests broke out outside the Noma pop-up store in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, after Redzepi decided to “leave” following the abuse allegations. Anonymously submitted claims of physical and verbal abuse began appearing on Instagram last month, when a Noma employee posted the same content on their platform. Subsequently, the New York Times published an article Report On Saturday, it was detailed a pattern of abuse by Redzepi between 2009 and 2017 that included punches, kicks, stabbings, intimidation and threats of retaliation.

As outrage grows over the report, major sponsors of the Los Angeles event have begun to withdraw.
