In an emotional moment on board shortly after the record was broken, the crew chose to name one of the lunar craters after Wiseman’s late wife, Carol. The request from Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hanson reportedly moved Wiseman to tears and the crew members hugged each other. “This is a highlight on the moon. We want to call it Carol,” they said.
The two craters are named “Integrity” after the capsule and “Carol” after the commander’s late wife. This has drawn attention to Reed Wiseman’s personal life. Here’s everything you need to know about his family.
Reed’s wife, Anne Carroll Taylor Wiseman, died at age 46 after a battle with cancer. The 2020 obituary reads: “Carroll Taylor Wiseman, 46, died May 17 in Friendswood, Texas After a five-year battle with cancer. “
She left Wiseman as a single father raising two daughters. Wiseman’s wife is a Virginia Beach native. Her obituary also said she was born to Waller and Anne Taylor. Carroll is a graduate of First Colony High School, James Madison University and Virginia Commonwealth University.

The obituary added: “After graduating as a pediatric nurse practitioner, Carroll worked at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD) and as a school nurse in Patuxent River, Maryland, and later in Friendswood, Texas.” Meanwhile, NASA also wrote about Carroll, saying “Reed’s hometown was Baltimore, Maryland. His late wife, Carol, dedicated her life to helping others as a neonatal intensive care unit registered nurse.”
Wiseman has two daughters – Ellie and Katherine. He posted a photo with Artemis 2 before it took off. “I love these two ladies and I am aboard the rocket as a very proud father,” he wrote.
Wiseman was born in Baltimore, Maryland. His father, Bill, lives in Hunt Valley, Maryland, according to the NASA page.
He also has an older brother, Bill, who attended the launch of Artemis 2. Bill in an interview with Como News reflect Speaking about his time with Wiseman, he said: “It was a really special time for the two of us to really be together and experience what Reid was doing and leading.”
Added Wiseman: “Reid actually still looks back and says, if you hadn’t performed this surgery on me and done it so precisely, I would never have been qualified to fly.” Reid Wiseman was a U.S. Navy pilot before becoming an astronaut, and Bill’s brother recalled meeting him at the time.
“I remember watching him sit on a board that had wheels underneath, so he was off balance, and he was juggling and doing things like landing flight calls, talking to the aircraft control tower, and at least simulating it all at the same time. And I was like, who is this? Like, isn’t this the kid I knew when I was 14 when I went to the Naval Academy?” Bill said.
Bill was a wrestler and baseball player. He became a SEAL and met his wife in the Navy.
