New Delhi: The Allahabad High Court on Friday ordered registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, who also holds British citizenship, according to the petitioner. The Lucknow bench of the High Court directed the Kotwali police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli district to register an FIR against Gandhi, who is both the Lok Sabha member of Rae Bareli and the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. The order was issued while allowing a petition seeking legal proceedings in the matter. The petition was filed by S Vignesh Shishir, a BJP worker from Karnataka, challenging the January 28 order of the Special MP/MLA Court in Lucknow dismissing the FIR filed by him against Gandhi. Hishir claimed to be in possession of British government documents and “confidential emails” indicating that Gandhi was also a British national. In a post on X, Hishir thanked the high court and described the judgment as “landmark” and “historic.”“I will be forever grateful to the court until my last breath for uncovering the truth in the interest of national security and the greater public interest,” he wrote. The Uttar Pradesh government has urged the Supreme Council to allow it to hand over the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the BJP functionary added.Hishir also asked the Center to upgrade the security of its Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to the highest possible level across India with immediate effect. The Indian constitution does not allow dual citizenship.
