Puducherry polls: BJP nominates another candidate for South Karaikal – See full list

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday named M Arulmurugan as its candidate for the upcoming Puducherry Assembly elections to be held on April 9. The day before, the Bharatiya Janata Party announced its first list of nine candidates. Arumurugan will contest from Karakal South constituency in the federal territory.With this, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced all its candidates for the upcoming Puducherry Assembly elections. Earlier, the party announced several candidates who will contest the constituencies as part of the alliance. It did not announce a candidate for a single seat as its alliance partner AIADMK has been allotted two seats, but insisted on adding one more seat.

seat sharingThe Bharatiya Janata Party is contesting in alliance with the RSS. As per the agreed formula, AINRC will contest 16 seats while the BJP and its allies will contest the remaining 14 seats. The BJP itself will contest 10 constituencies, with the AIADMK and Jose Charles Martin’s Latchiya Jananayaga Katchi (LJK) allotted two seats each after discussions of the latter joining the alliance.pondicherry pollsThe Election Commission has planned to conduct single-phase polling for all 30 seats in Puducherry on April 9 and counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.Preparations for the polls are underway with the Commission completing the first randomization of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT). It said detailed records will be shared with the candidates once the final list of contestants is ready to ensure transparency in the process.Puducherry has about 944,000 eligible voters, including about 443,000 male voters, 500,000 female voters and 139 third gender voters. The electorate also includes 23,033 first-time voters aged 18 to 19, more than 6,000 voters aged 85 and over and 12,204 people with disabilities.Voting will be held at 1,099 polling stations, including 610 in urban areas and 489 in rural areas, with an average of 859 voters per polling station.With candidates announced and logistics in place, the focus is now on the upcoming campaign, with parties preparing for next month’s vote.
