As the Pakistan Cricket Board redoubles its efforts to ensure the Pakistan Super League 2026 goes ahead smoothly, a fresh controversy has emerged involving two senior Lahore Qalandars players. Skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi and all-rounder have been worried as fuel shortage in the country could lead to a two-day lockdown Sikandar Raza They reportedly violated strict safety protocols put in place for the tournament. The two allegedly violated quarantine and safety guidelines by allowing four people to stay in Raza’s hotel room for more than two hours. this PSL The operation is currently being conducted amid heightened security arrangements, with more than 6,000 police officers deployed as well as artificial intelligence-based surveillance systems and drone surveillance. Due to security concerns and regional tensions, the matches were limited to two venues, Lahore and Karachi, and were held behind closed doors without spectators. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi had earlier stressed the importance of holding the league under such circumstances. “We don’t know how long the current situation will last, but hosting the PSL is necessary. It is an international brand and has foreign players participating. Everyone is eager for the PSL to continue,” he said. Following the violation, Lahore Deputy Inspector General of Police Faisal Kamran has formally informed the PCB and PSL authorities through an official letter. The matter is currently expected to be investigated and disciplinary action may be taken. At least a fine can be imposed, while a ban is still possible. There are also concerns that failure to act could set a bad precedent for other actors. The letter further claimed that the team’s liaison officer had initially sought permission from the PCB to allow four visitors into the hotel room, but the request was denied. A similar request from franchise owner Sameen Rana was also rejected. Despite this, Raza allegedly continued to allow visitors despite security personnel’s advice against it. Confirming the situation, Qalandars media head Umar Farooq said: “We are aware of the incident involving two Lahore Qalandars players and are in communication with the PSL regarding the matter.” With games already being played under strict safety measures, the incident raises new questions about discipline and adherence to protocols in a team environment.
