Prince Harry sued for defamation of African charity he co-founded in memory of late mother Princess Diana

prince harry He is facing a defamation lawsuit brought by the charity he co-founded, Sentebale, which accuses “bad media publicity” of causing reputational damage and disruption to his work. The case has been brought to London’s High Court, with the Duke of Sussex named as a defendant along with former trustee Mark Dyer. Court records list the claim, filed on March 24, titled “Defamation – Libel and Libel.”

Allegations of “reputation damage”

Sentebale said in a statement that the legal action seeks the court’s “intervention, protection and compensation” against what it calls a coordinated media attack. The charity claims the campaign resulted in the spread of “false narratives”, damaged its reputation, strained relationships with partners and diverted leadership resources. It also claims the fallout sparked cyberbullying against its leadership.Sentebale added that the legal fees for the case were paid entirely through outside funding and no philanthropic funds were used.

Internal dispute background

The lawsuit follows a bitter leadership dispute within the organization that led to Prince Harry’s resignation in 2025. The disagreements reportedly center on governance issues and tensions between the board and chairperson Sophie Chandauka.Prince Harry and co-founder Prince Seiso of Lesotho, along with several trustees, have resigned, citing an “untenable situation” after a breakdown in relations with the chairman. The dispute drew scrutiny from Britain’s Charity Commission, which later criticized the parties for allowing internal conflicts to become public while pointing to shortcomings in governance and management.

Former trustee Mark Dyer is also named in the lawsuit. Representatives for Prince Harry and Dale have so far not publicly responded to the allegations. The legal action is part of a wider series of high-profile legal proceedings involving Prince Harry in recent years, including cases against media organizations and the British government.

About Centebale
