‘Politics requires commitment’: BJP chief Nitin Nabin on TVK’s Vijay show; predicts Tamil Nadu result ‘surprising’

New Delhi: National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party Nitin Nabin The Tamilaga Vitri Kazhagam (TVK) on Thursday questioned the viability of a supposed alliance with actor-politician Vijay and claimed that the saffron party remains firmly aligned with its existing ally AIADMK.“I believe he (referring to Vijay) is trying politics for the first time. I wish him all the best, but politics requires full-time commitment. It is too early to talk about Vijay lucky Now. Charm may attract people, but only spending time on the ground can bring stability. We have formed an alliance with the AIADMK and are working together,” Nabin told ANI in an exclusive interview.

He reiterated that politics requires “full commitment”.“In politics, you have to be fully committed. Everything depends on how much time he devotes on the ground. Why should we ally with him? We are already in alliance with the AIADMK,” said Nabin, who succeeded Union Health Minister JP Nadda as the BJP president in January. The former Bihar MP, a surprise choice to lead the saffron party, also expressed confidence in the BJP-AIADMK alliance, saying the results in Tamil Nadu would be “surprising”.“The results in Tamil Nadu will surprise you. The DMK’s corruption and its appeasement politics will create a strong reaction from the people. The NDA will form the government in Tamil Nadu. There are clear signs of change,” the 45-year-old leader said. The BJP had reunited with the AIADMK led by former Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami in April last year after parting ways ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Both parties failed to win a single seat in the southern state, which sent 39 members to the Lok Sabha.Under the seat-sharing arrangement, the BJP will contest 27 seats in Tamil Nadu. All 234 assembly constituencies in the state will go to polls on April 23 and counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.Vijay, who founded TVK in February 2024, described the ruling DMK as his political rival and the BJP as an ideological rival.
