Pete Hegseth declares US ‘will do everything we can’ to achieve Iran war goals

At a news conference at the Pentagon on Monday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Kaine said that “the U.S. military campaign dubbed ‘Epic Fury’ against Iran is not expected to end ‘overnight.'” Senior officials further did not provide a precise timeline for a major joint bombing campaign with Israel.

“To be clear … this is not an overnight operation,” Kane said. “The military objectives entrusted to Central Command and the joint force will take some time to achieve and, in some cases, will be a difficult and arduous undertaking.”

“We expect to incur additional losses and, as always, we will work to minimize U.S. losses,” the top U.S. general said after the deaths of four U.S. service members.

The briefing was the first time since hostilities began on Saturday that senior Trump administration officials have publicly outlined ongoing combat operations and responded to reporters’ inquiries.

Heggs says war could last more than four weeks

President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the conflict could last about four weeks. Heggs He gave no further details and said he would “never put a time frame” on the operation.

“President Trump has all the latitude in the world to talk about how long it may or may not take — four weeks, two weeks, six weeks. It could go up, it could go down,” he commented.
