Pennsylvania Olive Garden suicide: Disturbing 911 audio emerges; ‘Man walked headfirst into fryer’

A heart-wrenching fatal incident occurred olive grove January 30, at a restaurant in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. A male chef committed suicide by plunging his head into a scalding fryer in full view of colleagues and customers.

The victim’s identity will not be released, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

What happened in the Olive Garden?

The New York Post reported that the worker took off his clothes and stuck his head into the boiling fryer.

When the chef tried to dive into the fryer, the victim’s colleagues became frightened and tried to intervene. A female colleague was slightly burned while trying to stop the chef from injuring herself further.

The chef was taken to a local hospital for treatment of severe burns and later died from his injuries, according to authorities.

pennsylvania State police spokesperson Trooper Lauren Lesher told The Witness that authorities are classifying the incident as a suicide attempt. He further clarified that out of respect for personal and family privacy, more personal information about the chef will not be disclosed.

The restaurant was temporarily closed following the incident but has since reopened.

In the recording, a visibly panicked dispatcher can be heard saying “a male victim walked headfirst into the fryer” and “a lot of people were screaming,” the New York Post reported.

“I don’t have a lot of details…a lot of people screaming, some with burns,” the emergency dispatcher said.
