Paula Badosa is going through a very difficult time, and this time it’s not just about tennis. The former world No. 2 shared a touching message after falling out of the top 100. The 28-year-old Spanish star has been battling a long-term back injury and is now also dealing with mental stress. After an early exit from the Miami Open, the ranking situation took a turn for the worse and her comments have now raised serious concerns about her future in the sport. She had suspended the resumption of the 2025 season in September, but after her return, victory was not easy. She competed in a lower-level challenge tournament in Austin earlier this month to rebuild her confidence, winning three games before losing in the semifinals. Then in Miami, she won her first match, but lost to young American Eva Jovich 6-2, 6-1 in the next round. Because she had already reached the fourth round last year, this early loss cost her a lot of ranking points.
After the loss, Paula Badosa took to Instagram to share her true feelings. Her words are raw and honest. She wrote, “The fear, the damn fear. It was so scary. Sometimes I felt like I couldn’t control the voice inside me. The emotions were overwhelming and I felt like I was drowning. Doubt took over and I felt lost in a sea of emotions.”She also admits that some days feel better than others. “Sometimes I feel like I’m strong enough, and other times it feels like the mountain is too high…I wonder if I can do it.”Still, she made it clear she wasn’t giving up. “If there’s anything that defines me, it’s that I always bounce back. Turn pain into strength, right? Why should this time be different?”This came after months of battling a back injury. She has missed big games in the past due to the same issue. Even when she played, she wasn’t fully recovered, which made things even more difficult.Last month, she also had a strong response to a fan who questioned her commitment. She said, “You have no idea what it’s like to live with a chronic injury and still choose to keep going… I’m the first person to live with the pain and endless nightmares every day trying to find a solution.”Off the field, her life also changed. Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas ended their relationship last year or so, which brought even more attention and pressure to her.Still, she tried to stay hopeful. “Paula isn’t back yet…but she will be,” she told her fans.
