Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was speaking to US Charge d’Affaires Natalie Baker, who called on him to discuss preparations for upcoming talks.
Pakistan will host face-to-face talks between the United States and Iran after they announced a two-week ceasefire, pausing hostilities that broke out on February 28.
According to the home ministry’s statement on X, Naqvi and Baker discussed preparations for the talks in detail.
The minister said that US Vice President Vance, US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were “our special guests.”
“A comprehensive plan has been developed to provide foolproof security to all foreign guests in every aspect,” the minister was quoted as saying.
The US envoy appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic role during the meeting.
On a related note, a 30-member US advance team has arrived in Islamabad to review security arrangements.
Sources told Dawn that a hotel located within the red zone was also reserved for the delegation and was vacated as per government directives, with enhanced security arrangements deployed in and around the hotel.
The two cities also held a series of meetings on Wednesday to review security arrangements and develop strategies for the coming days, the newspaper reported.
Sources further said that the red zones will remain under complete lockdown during the stay of the delegates in the national capital. Some ports of entry in the capital will also be closed, sources said.
According to sources, the VVIP benefits under the blue book will be extended to the delegation during its itinerary, stay and meetings.
The Red Zone houses several important buildings, hotels, foreign missions and official residences of key figures.
All state-run rescue services and hospitals are on high alert. They have been asked to remain on standby and ensure availability of staff and essentials, the source added.
