Pakistan selector Aqib Javed He defended the state of Pakistan cricket after the team’s disappointing exit from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, saying the situation was serious but not catastrophic for the future of cricket in the country.Pakistan failed to reach the semi-finals despite winning their final Super Eight match and were eventually eliminated due to a lower net run rate than the rest of the group.

Pakistani 2026 T20 World Cup Activity

Pakistan went through some ups and downs throughout the tournament. Early losses in the tournament have put them under intense pressure, including a humiliating 61-run loss to arch-rivals India, which has greatly hurt their net run rate and further complicated their promotion chances. When the Super Eight stage begins, Pakistan will need a convincing win to remain competitive. In the final match against Sri Lanka, Pakistan won by a narrow margin but failed to achieve the massive advantage they needed to overtake New Zealand in net run-rate. As a result, England and New Zealand advanced from their groups to the semi-finals, while Pakistan were eliminated despite winning at the end.

Aaqib Javed’s reaction after being eliminated

Speaking at a press conference after Pakistan’s exit, Aqib Javed admitted his team’s failure to reach the semi-finals was worrying but insisted it should not be seen as a complete collapse of Pakistani cricket.“It is a big problem but not so big that our cricket is destroyed, Pakistan are eliminated due to net run rate and the team is good enough to play in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup,” Ajib said.Responsibility and future prospectsBefore the match, Ajib had said that he would take responsibility if the Pakistan team performed poorly in the match. After his early exit, he reiterated that the team management and selectors would review the campaign and learn from their mistakes.
